At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

DRAGON OF LAKE BANYOLES

This lake is in Spain and there is a tradition that it harbors a dragon in its waters.  It has been believed in since at least the 8th Century.  It has thick scaly skin with spikes protruding from its spine.  It has quite rematkable halitosis.  It has large wings, but is too heavy to fly.  Reports of a monster in this lake were made in the 19th and early 20th Century.  It could emerge from the water and on one occasion was supposed to have actually crossed a nearby road.  On May 26th, 1913, a boat was wrecked on the lake and gossip blamed the monster.
