Some so-called sightings may have been Black Bears, but that doesn't mean they all have.
The Wildman was certainly known in Italian legend, but were they creatures of the Bigfoot type? They were said to be found in both the Alps and the Appenines and humans sometimes employed them as herdsmen. Could they have been surviving Neanderthals? They were knowlegeable about dairy products. They were generally not dangerous. An elderly Piedmontese said Wildmen, though of solitary bent, were once a numerous race. Modern sightings include one in 1974 by an old woman, at the end of 1980 one was seen a number of times in the vicinity of the River Sale and in 1997 sightings were reported in Grimaldi.
It looks like a huge bat with humanoid features and is said to be found in Austria.
This bird was supposed to have become extinct in 1914. It may still exist, as reports have come in from Michigan, New Jersey and Wisconsin.
