At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, December 20...

1958: Investigating a "strange glow" in the sky near Domsten, Sweden, witnesses Stig Rydberg and Hans Gustavson find a round obect 10 to 15 feet in diameter, emitting a smell of "burnt sausage." Nearby, "three or four" figures roughly 4.5 feet tall, each of a "shining dark gray color," appear "rushing around aimlessly." The things have "no definite heads, arms or legs" and are of "variable shape." Not surprisingly, they fail in their attempt  to drag Rydberg and Gustavson closer to the UFO, then rush back to the craft before it flies off with "an intolerable shine." The witnesses repeat their stories while under hypnosis.
