On This Day in Weird, April 7...
1933: Cryptozoology storms the silver screen with the
theatrical release of King Kong, depicting the adventures of a film crew
on Skull Island, faced with hostile tribesmen, living dinosaurs, and one angry
giant ape. Predictably, Kong's kidnapping and transport to New York does not go
well. Willis O'Brien's stop-animation special effects bring the prehistoric
world to life.
