In Scottish folklore, a creature covered with hair and endowed with hells which clank when it moves. It is about the size of an otter. It is said to be bigger out of the water than in. It is known in the area where England and Scotland meet. It was said to frequent a rock on the shore above Leith. The shellycoat was also supposed to be able to fly. It would never harm a pregnant woman.
