On This Day in Weird, February 14...
1929: Gunmen disguised as police murder seven members of the
George "Bugs" Moran b bootlegging gang in a garage on Chicago's North
Clark Street. Moran himself escapes unharmed after lookouts mistake another man
for the gang leader. Nearly everyone in Chicago and worldwide blames the
slaughter on rival gangster Al Capone, but the case remains officially
unsolved. Various publications blame specific members of the Capon gang, none
of whom are charged, and some mobsters also claim participation in an effort to
enhance their reputations.
