On This Day in Weird, December 15...
1967: The Silver Bridge, spanning the Ohio River between
Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Kanauga, Ohio, collapses during rush hour,
claiming 46 lives. Two victims are never recovered. Many locals blame the
disaster—caused in fact by failure of an eyebar in a suspension chain,
installed in 1928—on sightings of the mysterious "Mothman" during
1966-67.
