At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, February 15...

1974: Two friends on a sleepover at one girl's house in Fayette County, Illinois, rise at 5:00 a.m. and see "a huge black thing squatting down looking for something in the snow" outside the bedroom window, roughly three feet from the house. As it rose, the biped appeared to be some eight feet tall, compared in size to the girls' window, which was three feet above ground. Reporting it to the GCBRO website 31 years later, one girl wrote: "My monster was covered in short black hair everywhere but the face, and its eyes were red." It fled when she cried out for help, rousing her brother. They went outside but found no tracks or other evidence in the drifting snow.
