At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, February 13...

1933: Astronomer Galileo Galilei arrives in Rome for trial before the Inquisition as a heretic, for declaring that Earth revolves around the sun.

1777: French authorities arrest Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade, imprisoning him in the Château de Vincennes following his conviction in absentia for sodomy.

1924: Archaeologists open King Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. Rumors of lethal curses ensue and inspire innumerable walking-mummy films.

1970: Indian authorities claim a man-eating tiger has claimed 48 victims within 50 miles of New Delhi.
