At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

LOUGH WASKEL MONSTER

Lough Waskel is in the northerly part of Ireland.  Witness Cathal Murray claimed he had seen a strange animal ashore, sometime in the 1960s.  The animal had short legs.  It dove into the lake.  It was about 14 feet in length.  Black humps had been seen in the lough in 1951 by Manus MacCole.  Other sightings had been mentioned in times gone by.

Lough and  loch.  In case you're wondering about these words, both come from Gaelic languages spoken in Ireland and Scotland.  In the gaelic of both countries, the word is loch.  The word is anglicised lough in Ireland and loch in Scotland.  It both countries it can mean either a lake or an arm of the sea.
