At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, August 12...

2012: A resident of Jackson, Kentucky—north of Bagdad, in Shelby County—contacts the BFRO regarding strange incidents occurring the same day around 2:30 a.m. He reports a series of eerie howls ("I know what coyotes sound like, this was no coyote"), approaching and circling the house. After checking the tree line with a spotlight and seeing nothing, he goes back inside, moments before a shower of small stones strike the porch roof. The howling continues for over a half-hour, finally fading off into the woods. A previous encounter, sounds only with no creature sighting, allegedly occurred in November 2011, while the witness was deer hunting.
