At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, August 15...

Happy birthday to CFZ-USA editor Ronan Coghlan...I think. The proviso is added, since Facebook pegs his birth date as today, while the GoodReads website lists it as January 1. Oh, well. In any case, we salute him as Fortean investigator and author of numerous books including Dictionary of Cryptozoology, Further Cryptozoology, Cryptosup, Dictionary of Irish Myth and Legend, Irish Christian Names, Encyclopaedia of Arthurian Legends, Handbook of Fairies, The Robin Hood Companion, Sherlock Holmes and the Heir of Albion, Companion to Atlantis and Other Mystery Lands, and The Grail. His authoritative and lavishly illustrated Encyclopaedia of Arthurian Legends has sold more than 120,000 copies worldwide and has been translated into Japanese and Hungarian, while other Arthurian scholars praise it profusely. Whenever the actual birthday may be, many happy returns!

Thank you, Michael.  You have the date right!   - Ronan
