At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, March 20...

2012: While hiking to a site for target practice in Thurston County, Washington, a father, his two sons, and two juvenile friends see a "massive" figure rise from a blackberry patch on the far side of a hayfield. It had "big shoulders long arms and wide body all covered in brown hair. The hair on it head looked like it went to its shoulders." They follow the creature but it eludes them. Judging from the 6-foot height of one youth, they estimate the thing stood about 8 feet 6 inches tall. After it lost them, they heard five or six loud wood-knocking sounds from the forest nearby.
