At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, February 16...

2002: Two GCBRO members begin an investigation in Overton and Clay Counties, Tennessee. Arriving in Clay County near dark, they note "a very stout and nauseating smell" familiar from other Bigfoot expeditions, "much more invasive and stronger than any skunk could have produced." The next day, they receive tapping "answers" in response to wood-knocking, along with "a very loud gargled and angry cry." While preparing to leave, they reportedly glimpse a black, hairy biped that "looked to be a male adolescent in very good health." It stands six to seven feet tall, with "huge" shoulders, "extremely muscular arms and legs," covered with hair two to four inches long. Their account of the incidents, with photos, may be seen at http://www.gcbro.com/TNov21.html.
