At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

CRAWFORDSVILLE MONSTER

Let us go back to the 19th Century.  More specifically, let us visit Crawfordsville in 1891.  In that year, a strange creature was seen flying over it.  It was 20' long, 8' wide and did not appear to have a head.  Witnesses included a Methodist minster called G. Switzer.

Charles Fort

Charles Fort read of the story, but felt it was a fake.  Then he tracked Switzer down and corresponded with him, to learn the incident had actually occurred.  Other witnesses in due course in the course of further investigations confirmed that the report was true.

Just how a creature without a head could function, I do not pretend to know.  Maybe it had a brain somewhere else in its body and perhaps visual organs not discerned by the onlookers.  That they sighting actually took place seems beyond doubt.
