At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

WELSH WILDMAN

Wales is a part of Britain which was invaded and conquered by the English in the Middle Ages.  Few people would associate it with Wildmen, but there have been reports of wildmen over the years.

Welsh Wildmen have been reported from Denbighshire and Llandudno.  One was actually seen at Gloddaeth and was heavily covered with black hair.  It was said to be twice the size of an adult male hunter.

The Brenin Llwyd ("Gray King") is supposed to live in the mountains of Snowdonia.  He is supposed to be a personification of the mist that at times envelopes the mountains.  He was supposed to seize victime that had wandered into his domain and who had not heard his approach.

While he may be no more than a personification, in recent times it has been suggested that there is an actual creature in the Snowdonian heights.  Witnesses claim to have seen the creature.  One said it stood on two legs but looked more like a bear than an ape.   It  looked more fearful than aggressive, but it was also reported to have attacked a campsite.
