The vicinity of Boardman, North Carolina, was visited by a strange creature in 1914. None could identify it. It was encountered by a coon hunter named Britt. The animal was pursued by the latter's dogs until eventually it took refuge in a tree. Britt opened fire and the creature, still alive. fell to the ground, where it was set upon by the hunter's dogs. It put up quite a fight, killing three of them with "slaps" before its life was extinguished.
The animal was said to be larger than a dog. Its hair hung over its eyes. What it was, nobody who saw its remains could guess. Neither can I.
