In the summer of 1954, Arnold Neujahr saw a lion near the town of Surprise, which, in the circumstances, was somewhat aptly named. The lion had a mane, so it wasn't a puma.
A lion and lioness were reported by a woman in the same summer, while a lion, presumably the same one, was reported in Rising City.
We hear no more of these exotic felids. Perhaps they were escapees from a zoo or circus. Their provenance is a mystery.
