At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

THE FEAST OF ST GEORGE

St George, who may have lived about 300 AD, is the reputed slayer of a dragon and thus finds his way onto a cryptozoological blog. He is the patron saint of England, though the English make no great celebration of his feast.  He was not himself English, but may have been born in what is now Turkey.  They were accustomed to celebrate him more vigorously in the Middle Ages and in the 1930s. Today (April 23rd) is his feast day. We really know nothing about him, but a great number of legends have attached themselves to his name.  One of those is the dragon slaying story, but this is a late addition to his legendry.
