At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

MAN-BAT OF WISCONSIN

A somewhat scary encounter with this creature was reported from
Wisconsin in a book by Linda Godfrey (Monsters of Wisconsin, 2011).  A father and son were driving in La Crosse when this creature landed on the hood of their car.  It flew upward with a scream.  It was about 6' in height.  The pair in the car suffered from sickness for a while afterwards.  Were they allergic to the bizarre creature?  They also reported pounding on the door of their house, not to mention rattling of the doorknob, for some time.  What are we to make of these vespertilian creatures, which seem to keep turning up with some regularity?  Could the illness have been some kind of reaction to gases released by penetration of an interdimensional barrier?  Could it merely have been caused by some kind of allergy to the bat or some contagion carried by it?  Surely it is about time somebody investigated these animals with a view to discovering their provenance?

On the other hand, if you start talking about interdimensional penetration people are inclined to think you are crackers.  I feel there may be more man-bat encounters that people are afraid to talk about (let alone seek authorities to research into) in case they are labeled as mad as a box of frogs.
