ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD


On This Day in Weird, August 22...

1959: Jonathan Downes, founder-leader of the Centre for Fortean Zoology, as well as a renowned naturalist, cryptozoologist, author, editor, film-maker, poet, novelist, activist, journalist, composer and singer-songwriter, with a background in radical politics and mental health care, is born in Portsmouth, England, spending time as a child/adolescent in Nigeria and Hong Kong before returning to the UK in 1971. Since 2012 he has been editor of the Gonzo Daily blog, and the Gonzo Weekly e-zine, both in conjunction with Gonzo Multimedia (formerly Voiceprint Records). His 22 published boos since 1988 include Smaller Mystery Carnivores of the Westcountry, The Owlman and Others, The Blackdown Mystery, Only Fools and Goatsuckers, he Monster of the Mere, Monster Hunter, and The Island of Paradise: Chupacabra, UFO Crash Retrievals, and Accelerated Evolution on the Island of Puerto Rico.
