At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, September 5...

1977: Young brothers Karl and Steven Traster report a Bigfoot sighting while playing in their own yard at "Care,  Michigan," according to authors Colin and Janet Bord. The boys describe the creature as 8 to 9 feet tall, covered with long brown hair and "smelly," with prominent breasts, large teeth and long fingernails. There is no town called "Care" in Michigan—or anywhere in the United States, apparently—but the state does have towns called "Clare" and "Caro." Perhaps something was lost in translation?

  1. Karl Traster passed away on June 10, 2010. Survived by a brother, Steven. Karl would have been 13 at the time. They lived near Caro.

Bigfoot sightings in the area roughly bordered between Kingston, Millington, Vassar and Caro, Mi have been quite numerous. I have been told a few myself, One by a co-worker who was forced to move (and lose a security deposit) from a nice place in the woods because his wife heard a loud noise outside one evening. She looked out a window and saw the big guy staring right back at her. She refused to stay there alone anymore at night. Since Charlie's job required him to work until after 11:00 PM, not leaving the very nice cabin in the woods was not an option.
