At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

MARYLAND'S PIG LADY

Near the town of North East (Maryland) the woods are supposed in local folklore to contain this astonishing creature.  There are said to have been sightings since the 19th Century, when two girls encountered what they took to be a woman who was on fire.  They thought the fire had killed her, but she jumped up, surrounded by smoke.  Her face looked like that of a pig.  The girls, understandably, took off at a run.

At a certain bridge in the woods cars are said to stop inexplicably at night.  Drivers hear scratches.  Then they see the Pig Lady, who batters the windshield with her trotters and presses her snout against it.

The stories involve disappearances of drivers foolish enough to leave their cars and run for it.  Those who remain inside seem to survive.

Although I have come on a number of reports of Pigmen, the Pig Lady is the only female of which I know.
