GLOWING SOW

We have dealt earlier with the Boar at Christmas.  In Sweden there are also traditions concerning a Sow, known as the Glowing Sow (Gloso).  At harvest, three sticks of wheat are left in each field for her.  Gloso arrives on Christmas Eve and her glowing eyes and the sparks coming from her bristles can be seen approaching.  Porridge and fish heads should be left out for her.  (This is a combination I have not sampled myself; perhaps she eats them separately).  If such an offering is absent, she will enter the house, get under the table and, for the whole Christmas season, she will rock it about when you're trying to eat in peace.
