At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, September 12...

1922: Future Hollywood makeup artist John Chambers, a widely touted suspect in the supposed Patterson-Gimlin film "hoax" of Bigfoot (though he denied it to his dying day), born in Chicago, Illinois.

2006: Global nuclear war fails to erupt on this date, as predicted in February by "Yisrayl" Hawkins, "pastor and overseer" of the House of Yahweh in Abilene, Texas. The following month, Hawkins—formerly known as "Buffalo Bill" Hawkins—pleads guilty to injury to a child by criminal negligence for performing surgery on her seven-year-old daughter, which led to her death. The world keeps turning and fools keep believing.
