At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

ST PATRICK'S DAY (march 17th)

Saint Patrick, tt Patrihe patron saint of Ireland, lived in the early Middle Ages.  We know only two immediate sources for his life, but a number of legends have attached to him.  One such is cryptozoological.

Lough Derg in Donegal was inhabited by a monster. Dwellings ashore were not safe from him.  Patrick determined to deal with the matter.  He struck the monster with his staff, killing it.  The monster bled profusely and the lake water assumed a reddish tinge; hence the modent name of the lake, which means the Red Lake.  The skeleton of the monster was said to have remained on Station Island for some considerable time.

St Patrick lived in the 5th Century, AD
