In 1895 a mysterious predator was reported from Russia. Various identifications were proposed for the beast, including panther, tiger or dog. It eventually devoured a couple of poisoned sheep and went off into the woods. There, presumably, it died. In fact, there may have been more than one beast involved and they may have belonged to different species.
