At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP - THE CONTROVERSY

The nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep is well known, but it has been the center of a controversy which led to its being banned in schools in Birmingham, England.  The rhyme first appeared in print about 1744.

It was suggested the rhyme was racist, but in fact there is no evidence that it has anything to do with racism or the slave trade.  The majority opinion seems to be that it was a protest against the Great Custom, a wool tax of the  13th Century.

Black parents in Birmingham regarded the ban as ludicrous and eventually it was withdrawn.  You should be able to sing it without causing offense.

This shows how ridiculous the present state of so-called "Political Correctness" is.
