The dwarf dragon is a creature of German folklore. They were ssupposed to have, long ago, been kept as household pets. They were handy for lighting fires. They throve in the vicinity of Heidelberg. Only the males could fly. The females liked water and would come down to the River Neckar.
Aldrovandus examined what might have been such a creature which was killed by an Italian farmer in 1572. He judged it to be a juvenile.
