1844: Seventh-day Adventist leader Samuel S. Snow predicts
the Second Coming of Jesus. Thousands of followers wait expectantly, many
having given away all their worldly possessions. When JC fails to show, the
sect moves on, memorializing October 22 as the "Great
Disappointment."
