1524: Thousands of Londoners flee their homes after astrologers predict an apocalyptic flood. They return, embarrassed, when nothing happens. The prophets move their prediction down range to 1624.

1624: Once again, London's end-of-the-world prophecy fails.

1957: A trawler nets a giant squid six miles northeast of Rattray Head, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The specimen measures 23 feet 11 inches long.
           
2004: 251 pilgrims die, with another 244 injured, in a stampede at Mina, Saudi Arabia, during their "stoning of the devil" ritual.

2008: The Bigfoot comedy-adventure film Strange Wilderness premieres.
