DOG-EATER

This strange animal was reported from Kentucky in the 19th Century.  The animal seems to have been vaguely described, with a woolly coat and a bushy tail.  The curious thing was it would only eat dogs, at least most times, hence its peculiar name of "dog-eater" in local lore.  Although seen by a number of witnesses, no very clear identification of its species was made.  Perhaps it was a species totally unknown to the witnesses.  Dogs that it encountered seemed terrified of it.  This information comes from one of the fascinating reports in Adam Benedict's book Monsters in Print.
