The Robert Ellis, a small ship was making its way from the Welsh island of Anglesey to the shore in 1805 when a huge worm from the sea managed to wriggle aboard and established itself on the deck, coiled up under the mast. The sailors summoned up their courage and managed to push it overboard, but it followed the ship for some time.
As a matter of interest, the Giant Gippsland Worm of Australia reaches a length exceeding 3'. A similar length was reported for America's Giant Palouse Earthworm, but this may be extinct. However, we have the impression that the worm mentioned above was very much greater.
