CALLER

The name of a snake in the legends of China and Vietnam.  It will call out in human speech to a wayfarer, asking him whither he is bound.  Having ascertained this, he will follow him with murderous intent.  Hoteliers in days agone knew the antidote to this creature which was a kind of insect whose bite was death to the caller.  The bodies of callers that lived a full life span could be used to make lamp oil that the wind could not put out.
