TUATARA - A REALLY STRANGE CREATURE

The tuatara is a reptile in an order of its own.  In case you haven't guessed, that's the order of Rhynchocephalia.  It is now a threatened species.

There is a Welsh cryptid called the Cenaprugwirion (pronounced 
Kenaprigwirion; sometimes spelled Genaprugwirion.)  The eminent cryptozoologist Karl Shuker has suggested that the legend of this animal may have sprung from imported tuataras in times gone by.
