LAKE CHAMPLAIN'S OTHER CRYPTID

Champ, the famous monster reported to lurk in the waters of Lake Champlain, is well known to cryptozoologists.  Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635), after whom the lake is named, never saw this creature.  But he did see another creature unknown to zoologists.  This was the chaosaru.  It was seen by Champlain in 1609.  We are told that it had sharp teeth and was five feet long.
It has been suggested that it might be a gar or sturgeon, unrecognized as such by Champlain.  The sighting took place in 1609.
