THE SEA COBRA

A horrifying sea serpent, hooded like a cobra and capable of extremely swift movement, which fought two men on the Alaskan shore.  John Ross, a deputy marshal, told the story to the Juneau City Mining Record in 1894.  He saw S.A. Keller lifted into the air in the creature's mouth.  He shot the beast, making it release Keller, then shot it again and succeeded in cutting off the end of its tail, which was ashore, and it wriggled back into the water.  The creature then swam off.  Ross estimated its length at 200 feet.
