TERMS FOR HYBRIDS

Here are some interesting and unusual terms for hybrid animals.
Westart with the yak.  A cross between a yak and a cow is called a  khaing generally.  If it is male, it is called a zo, the scrabble player's delight.  If it is female it is called a zomo.  If a male yak and a zomo then interbreed, their offspring is called an ortoom.  If an ortuoom crossbreeds with either a bull or a male yak, the offspring they have is an usanguzee.

Going on to the camelids, the hybrid of a Bactrian and an Arabian camel is a bukht.  A camel-llama hybrid is a cama.  It is when we get into llama/vicuña/alpaca/guanaco hybrids that we almost need a new dictionary.

A warilla is a cross between a llama and an alpaca if it looks more like a llama; but, if it looks more like an alpaca, it is called a
t'aqa.  A huaritzo is the offspring of a male alpaca and a female llama.  If a female alpaca and a male llama have an offspring it is a misti.  We also have paco-vicuña (male vicuña and female alpaca), llamo-vicuña (male vicuña and female llama), paco-guanaco (male alpaca and female guanaco) and llama-guanaco (male guanaco and female llama).
