CANVEY ISLAND MONSTER

This creature turns up in cryptid works from time to time.  It was a strange creature, in a state of rotting decay, which was washed up on Canvey Island in England in 1954.  It was said to be possibly bipedal.  It was 2.5' long.  In 1955 another such creature was found in a better state of preservation.    Its skin was tough like a pig's, it had noticeable gills. large eyes and sharp teeth.  The only authority for the second specimen seems to be F. Edwards Stranger Than Science (1959).  However, M. Goss has examined contemporary sources and photographs and suggested, with much plausibility, that the creatures were decomposing fish.
