NAWAO - THE LARGE HUNTERS

The Nawao, in Hawaiian tradition, were large humanoids who lived by hunting and are now (probably) extinct.  Tradition has it they were overcome by the Menehune, another legendary race who are supposed to have arrived later.  The Menehune were regarded as diminutive, but there is evidence for their actual existence, perhaps a race of pygmies.  One website averred that the two races were the same, despite clear differences.  Another theory is that neither race is really native Hawaiian at all.  Belief in them was introduced by Europeans, who had giants and dwarfs in their own legends.
