On This Day in Weird, February 5...

1983: Former Nazi Gestapo official Klaus Barbie, the "Butcher of Lyon," is brought to trial in France, revealing details of his flight from Europe after World War II and his long, subversive collaboration with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency in South America. Finally convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in July 1987, he dies in prison on September 23, 1991.
