1892: In what may be the least helpful cryptid sighting on
record, Connecticut's New Haven Evening Register reprints an article
from Montana's Anaconda Standard newspaper, date uncertain. The short
piece claims that an unnamed witness, described as a "wild-eyed
individual," allegedly saw a hairy "varmint" in the mountains
near Anaconda, a copper mining town. For reasons unclear, Bigfoot enthusiasts
have cited this as a positive or probably hominid sighting.
