On This Day in Weird, September 23...
2012: While stalking deer in California's Alpine County,
west of Markleeville, one member of a three-man hunting party finds "a 25
foot tree placed upside down next to another tree well over 50 feet high,"
snapped off at its base, then notes "the silhouette of a bipedal primate
about 8 feet tall standing still looking at me." It flees after several
seconds, and afterward the hunter finds a dead, mutilated deer, apparently
deceased for "several weeks."
