1977: While camped on a river sandbar in Mark Twain National
Forest, in Missouri's Crawford County, four witnesses claim a Bigfoot sighting "sometime
after dark." They describe the creature as 8 to 9 feet tall, with a
conical head and a "massive upper
body, massive arms, shoulders and a very barrel chest." It crosses the
river against a strong current, clearly lifting its knees above water level (around
three feet) with each stride, and its "arms swayed excessively with every
step." Once across the river, it stares at them briefly, then moves off
into the forest.
