On This Day in Weird, August 4...

1969: Teenage hikers Marshall Cabe and Mark Meece claim they were "chased by to camp" by three Sasquatches at Cub Lake, east of Darrington, Washington. The alleged witnesses are among eight youths camped at the same place, but none of the others sees anything. Meece says the creatures "looked more like big, well built men than apes," though all three were covered with long dark hair and were roughly 10 to 11 feet tall! While fleeing, in fear of his life, Meece still has time to notice that the creatures' heads "dipped in and out at the forehead." Robert Taylor, park ranger in Darrington District of Mount Baker National Forest, tells reporters his office has received stories of the incident but he's "not taking it too seriously." He says he will not send anyone to investigate the claim, but "If we have anyone going up that way we'll ask them to look around." One must assume that the "chase," if it occurred, was some kind of game, since the hairy giants left their two "victims" untouched and unharmed.
