ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, February 21...

1976: Two boys report a Bigfoot sighting at "Ulm, Utah." One says he only glimpses a hairy arm, while his companion describes a tall creature covered with dark-brown hair, also with "glowing whitish-yellow eyes." Strangely, there is no town or other identifiable site in Utah called "Ulm." The closest match discoverable is the abbreviation for Utah Lighthouse Ministry, founded by ex-Mormons Jerald and Sandra Tanner "to document problems with the claims of Mormonism and compare LDS doctrines with Christianity." At last report, since Jerald's death in 2006, the "ministry" and small publishing house operated from the Tanner home on South West Temple Street in Salt Lake City. Setting religion aside, based on false naming of the location alone, this alleged sighting must be ranked as dubious.
