1855: J. W. McHenri, a resident of Waldoboro, Maine,
allegedly captures a hairy humanoid creature about 18 inches tall. A four-month
delay in publication of the news, finally announced by the Washington State
Pioneer and Democrat on May 12—some 2,500 miles distant from the site of
the supposed event—strongly suggests a "silly season" hoax.
