SCHMIDT'S MONSTER

Here's one from the archives.   In 1907 Franz Schmidt and Rudolf Pfleng were traveling on the Solimoes River in Colombia.  Gazing at the riparian bushes, which were about 10' tall, they saw a huge head appear and look over them.  It had a snout reminiscent of a tapir's.  It emerged from the trees and they saw it had clawed flippers instead of forelegs.  The two men calculated the shoulder height at 8'-9'.
