ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, September 6...

2013: Crypto blogger Robert Lindsay waxes hyperbolic on the one-year anniversary of "the most famous deed in Bigfoot history"—i.e., hoaxer Rick Dyer's alleged shooting and preservation of his second Sasquatch. Lindsay adds, "And yes, I do now believe that Rick killed a Bigfoot on that day." His proof includes statements that: "A Bigfoot was present with Rick and Morgan [Matthews] in San Antonio"; "Rick shot the Tent Video of the Bigfoot earlier in the day. You can hear Morgan whispering in the background to wake him up"; "The Bigfoot came back later than night to eat more ribs"; "Rick saw and came out with his gun. Morgan came out of his tent with a camera. They both chased the Bigfoot"; "Rick shot live bullets and the Bigfoot" [are there any dead bullets?]; "The Bigfoot ran into Morgan and knocked him over"; "At some point, Rick shot and killed the Bigfoot. The details are unclear" [!!!]; and finally, "Video of the dead Bigfoot was later shot with Rick's cell-camera that night or early the next morning." Alas, four months before Lindsay aired that anniversary pledge of belief—in April 2014—Dyer had already confessed his latest hoax, writing on Facebook: "Coming clean about everything is necessary for a new start. From this moment own [sic], I will speak the truth! No more lies, tall tales or wild goose chases to mess with the haters!" How Lindsay missed that confession, or why he chose to ignore it, is anyone's guess.
