MONSTER OF LAKE PEPIN

Lake Pepin lies on the course of the Mississippi, between Minnesota and Wisconsin.  It takes its name from Jean Pepin, who settled there in the 17th Century.  It is mentioned by Laura Ingalls Wilder in her Little House on the Prairie series.

The Dakota Indians maintained that there was a monster in the lake.  They were probably disbelieved by the paleface.  However, in 1871, it was seen by white settlers near Stockholm (Wisconsin).

There have been further sightings and those in boats on the lake have reported being bumped into by some underwater creature.

A serpentine creature was reported by one Sally Schimbeno, but she wasn't prepared to say it was certainly the monster.

In recent times, there was a sighting some time after 2000.

In 2009 it was spotted off the beach at Lake City.  Witnesses claimed its length was 30'.
